Traffic wardens work in a position of responsibility with constant interaction with the public so you can expect to be asked to take a standard DBS check as part of your recruitment process.

DBS checks are robust criminal record checks carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service. These background checks are a statutory procedure for all frontline work set out in the 1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

The purpose of DBS checks is to keep the public safe. The greater your engagement with the public in role, the stronger the level of DBS check you must undergo to ensure you are suitable for the position.

A DBS check for a traffic warden is a standard DBS check. You will be asked to undertake the CRB check when you apply for the role and its completion is mandatory. Without a standard DBS check you will not be able to work as a traffic warden in the UK.

Your standard DBS check will verify whether you have any unspent or spent convictions, cautions, reprimands or warnings in existence on the Police National Computer. It can only by your employer.
