A DBS check for a surveyor is a basic DBS check. Basic DBS checks are the lowest level of vetting carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service, or Disclosure Scotland if you live in Scotland.
DBS checks are a national safeguarding measure for public-facing roles, established with the introduction of the 1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. The purpose of these CRB checks is to protect the public from those who are unsuitable for frontline work.
What will a basic DBS show?
A basic DBS check for a surveyor will require a search for any unspent criminal convictions or conditional cautions. The results of this search will be presented on a DBS certificate which must be shown to your employer to complete the recruitment process.
The DBS certificate will list any information found for the categories searched, only. Data held about any other categories will not be displayed. If your search doesn’t elicit any results, your DBS certificate will be blank.
