Frontline workers in the UK are subject to statutory criminal searches called DBS checks. There are four different types of DBS checks frontline workers can be asked to take as part of the recruitment process.

Why do I need a DBS check?

The strongest types of DBS checks are reserved for those who work closely with children and vulnerable adults as a result a DBS check for a road safety officer is an enhanced DBS check with barred lists.

An enhanced DBS check with barred lists for a road safety officer will require a search for any unspent or spent convictions, cautions, reprimands or warnings, as well as further non-conviction information from relevant police forces, plus checks against the children’s and/ or the vulnerable adults barred list.

This level of scrutiny is necessary because much of your work will involve projects for children which means you will be working in contexts where you could have unsupervised contact with children.
