It may come as a surprise that recruitment to the National Trust Executive in the UK is subject to a statutory criminal record check called a DBS check.
DBS checks are a formal search carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service to determine your suitability for an influential role with a degree of interaction with the public.
There are four types of DBS checks:
- Basic DBS check
- Standard DBS check
- Enhanced DBS check
- Enhanced DBS check with barring lists
A DBS check for an employee of the National Trust Executive will be a basic DBS check. Basic DBS checks are only a first tier check. These statutory checks are necessary for all those in frontline roles to keep the public safe.
Some employees of the National Trust Executive are asked to undergo a stronger degree of CRB check because they have a greater level of interaction with the public. This type of comprehensive check is called an enhanced DBS check and can only be requested by your employer.
An enhanced DBS check for an employee of the National Trust Executive will require a search for any spent and unspent convictions, reprimands, cautions, warnings and non-conviction information held by relevant police forces.
If your work may involve activities and projects for children and vulnerable adults, such as school visits, group visits, weekend family projects and school holiday activities, you can expect to be asked to take an enhanced DBS check.
