To work as a miner in the UK, you will need to take a DBS check. A DBS check for a miner is a basic DBS check.

What is a DBS check?

DBS checks are statutory checks carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service to keep the public, particularly children and vulnerable adults, safe.

Any information found during the search by the Disclosure and Barring Service is listed on your DBS certificate which you will receive through the post and online. If nothing is found during the search, your DBS certificate will be blank.

A basic DBS check for a miner will involve a search for any unspent criminal convictions or conditional cautions. Once you receive your DBS certificate, you will need to show it to your employer to begin work as a miner so your DBS check is an obligatory part of your recruitment process.

What is a CRB check?

DBS checks were formerly known as CRB checks so DBS checks and CRB checks are the same thing.

Since 1974, all frontline roles listed in the 1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act have been subject to the completion of a DBS check during the recruitment process. In the past, this vetting process was known as a CRB check.
