As a martial arts instructor you will have lots of contact with the public as you deliver classes to children and adults. Your regular and close engagement with the public means you will be subject to a statutory DBS check.

DBS checks are a robust, national safeguarding measure to ensure the public are adequately protected from those unsuitable for frontline work. Anyone working with children and teenagers is subject to the highest level DBS check.

This statutory vetting procedure involves a comprehensive background check carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service. If you live in Scotland, your DBS check will be managed by Disclosure Scotland.

A DBS check for a martial arts instructor is an enhanced DBS check. The check will verify whether you have any spent convictions, reprimands, warnings and non-conviction information held by relevant police forces.

You will need to show the DBS certificate to run your martial arts classes.

An enhanced DBS check for a martial arts instructor is a crucial measure to ensure the public, particularly children and vulnerable adults, are able to enjoy sports safely.
