Working in public spaces and private homes on a daily basis, landscape architects and gardeners who wish to work in the UK must undergo a statutory criminal record check called a DBS check.

A DBS check for landscape architects and gardeners is a basic DBS check. This check is necessary to ensure the public are protected from those who are unsuitable for frontline work.

You or your employer can request the completion of a DBS form. The form will be sent to the Disclosure and Barring Service who will carry out the check on behalf of the UK Home Office.

A basic DBS check for landscape architects and gardeners will involve a search for any unspent criminal convictions or conditional cautions.

Once complete, you will receive a copy of your DBS certificate in the post and online. Any details found during the search will be listed in the DBS certificate. If no records are found, your DBS certificate will be blank.

Your employer will need to see the certificate before you can begin the role.
