To work as a doorman or bouncer in the UK, you will need to undergo a standard DBS check.

Standard DBS checks are carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service. A standard DBS check for a bouncer or doorman will involve a search for any unspent or spent convictions, cautions, reprimands or warnings in existence on the Police National Computer.

This level of vetting is a statutory requirement for any bouncer or doorman in the UK. The ruling was established in 1974 under the 1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

This type of CRB check can only be requested by your employer and you will need to take the DBS check to gain entry to the profession. Your application to join the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and gain an SIA licence will require the completion of a standard DBS check.

Without a standard DBS check for a doorman or bouncer you will not be able to get a licence from the SIA, which will prevent you from being able to work.

The SIA have clear guidance to determine how they approach any information that does come up in a standard DBS check and any records found do not automatically disqualify your application.
