Did you know, as a call centre worker in the UK you could be subject to a DBS check? DBS checks are formal background checks carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service to safeguard the public, particularly children and vulnerable adults.

Any job which involves interaction with the public, is likely to require a DBS check as part of its recruitment process. The 1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act stipulates all the roles that must undertake a CRB check and the type of DBS check necessary for each job.

Which type of DBS check will I need?

There are four types of DBS checks, which each involve a different level of background check. A DBS check for a call centre worker falls into the first level of DBS checks.

You will only need a basic DBS check.

A basic DBS check for a call centre worker will require a search for any unspent criminal convictions or conditional cautions. Spent convictions will not be included.

Due to the wide range of contexts in which a call centre worker could be employed, DBS checks are not necessary for every call worker. If your work involves interactions with children and/ or vulnerable adults, or your role involves giving advice to the public, you can expect to undergo a basic DBS check.

DBS checks may be requested by employers and individuals. We make it easy for organisations and individuals to complete basic DBS checks online. To find out more visit our home page or call one of our friendly experts today on 0333 030 0446.
