By law, if you are applying to become a barrister in the UK, you must undergo a standard DBS check.

A standard DBS check is carried out by the Disclosure and Barring service. The check will involve a search for any unspent or spent convictions, cautions, reprimands or warnings in existence on the Police National Computer.

This type of CRB check is a prerequisite for a range of jobs within the legal and financial sectors, including roles where work is carried out under Money Laundering Regulations.

A standard DBS check for a barrister is part of your ongoing duty to disclose anything which may call into question your suitability for the role. This expectation is considered crucial within the profession to ensure public confidence is maintained.
