Working under the terms of the1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, the Disclosure and Barring Service conduct checks on all public-facing roles. The DBS exists to keep the public, particularly children and vulnerable adults, safe.

What does a basic DBS check involve?

A basic DBS check for a television presenter will involve a search for any unspent criminal convictions or conditional cautions. Once the search is complete, you will receive a DBS certificate listing any information found. If the search returns no results, your DBS certificate will be blank.

Your employer will need to see your DBS certificate to ensure you are suitable for a role as a television presenter. Without a certificate you will not be able to complete the application process.
